Synthesis and Magnetic Properties of Tetranuclear Copper(II)–Cobalt(II) Complexes of Macrocyclic Oxamides

The field of heteropolymetallic complexes is of current interest in connection with the structures and roles of polymetallic active sites in biological systems [1], and the design of new molecular materials with magnetic, optical and electrical properties [2,3]. Among various relevant systems, oxamido-bridged polynuclear complexes [2,4] and phenolato-oxygen-bridged macrocyclic complexes [5,6] represent two of the most widely studied systems. However, little work has been devoted to polynuclear complexes of macrocyclic ligands containing the oxamido bridge [7,8,9]. In continuation of our work on magnetism of polynuclear macrocyclic complexes [8,9], we describe here the synthesis, characterization and magnetic properties of the tetranuclear [Cu3Co] complexes of [14]N4 and [15]N4 macrocyclic oxamides. These complexes are of formulas [(CuL1)3Co](ClO4)2 (1), [(CuL 2)3Co](ClO4)2 (2), [(CuL3)3Co](ClO4)2 (3) and [(CuL 4)3Co](ClO4)2 (4).
